Trips to Olympia International Horse Show up for grabs in Young Champion of Ireland 2015!

Following it’s successful introduction during the FEI European Championships for Ponies last year, the Duggan Family is pleased to announce that the Young Champion of Ireland competition returns with a new format for 2015. With the generous support of Coolmore Stud, Young Champion of Ireland classes will be staged for 128cms, 138cms and 148cms ponies.

Qualifiers will take place across the country:

Mullingar EC (28th June)
Cavan EC (10th July)
Tubberbride (18th July)
South-East Clare (26th July)

A total of 24 Athlete and Pony combinations will qualify for the “Young Champion of Ireland” finals to be held during the 2015 Millstreet International Horse Show where the three Young Champions will each win a once in a lifetime trip for three to the London International Horse Show (Olympia) in December, including transport, accommodation and the chance to meet top riders. The Young Champion of Ireland will be decided over 2 competitions by means of a points scoring system. Single points will be awarded for the Table A class with double points being awarded for the Grand Prix class. The Winner will be the athlete who achieves the highest cumulative score.

The Millstreet Horse Show Team are pleased to provide details of the 2015 Qualifiers for the 3 Year Old Young Irelander class to be held during Millstreet International Horse Show CSI*** (11th – 16th August):

 

  • Green Glens Arena, Millstreet – Tuesday 7th July at 09:30am
  • Green Glens Arena, Millstreet – Friday 10th July at 09:30am

In addition to the qualifiers, 3 horses will qualify at each of the following shows:

  • Performance Show, West Cork Equestrian Centre on Saturday July 18th
  • Ballina Agricultural Show on July 12th
  • South East Clare on July 27th

5 horses have also qualified from Mullingar International Horse Show earlier this month.

Millstreet to host 2017 FEI European Eventing Championships for Young Riders and Juniors

The FEI has announced that the Green Glens Arena / Drishane Castle will host the 2017 FEI European Eventing Championships for Young Riders and Juniors. The decision was announced at the spring in-person meeting of the FEI Bureau, held at the FEI Headquarters in Lausanne (SUI), which took place today.

Millstreet hosted the widely acclaimed 2014 FEI European Championships for Ponies (Dressage, Eventing, Jumping) and the Duggan Family and their team look forward to welcoming Juniors and Young Riders to the Co. Cork venue in 2017.

Speaking after the announcement, Thomas Duggan said “We are truly delighted and will work to make it a very successful championship.”

The venue will host its inaugural International Horse Trials (CIC3, 2 and 1 star level) from 28th – 30th August 2015 with work progressing well on the Mike Etherington-Smith designed cross country courses. Riders will be competing for a prize fund of over €25,000. In 2016, Millstreet will host the FEI European Jumping Championships for Young Riders, Juniors and Children on Horses.

The Duggan family is saddened to hear of the death of International show jumping judge Alan Jones. Alan officiated at Millstreet as foreign judge on many occasions and will be sadly missed by all who worked with him.

We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends at this time.

Sgt. Major Steve Hickey RIP

The Duggan Family is saddened to hear of the passing of renowned International Course Designer Sergeant Major Steve Hickey.

Steve played an important part in the development of the International Horse Show in Millstreet in his role as Course Designer and officiated at multiple Championship level, World Cup and International events.

Our sympathy goes to his wife Nora together with his family and friends.

Mr. Coolcaum wins the Welcome Tour Grand Prix

Tipperary man Liam O’ Meara remained cool and calm in Millstreet this afternoon to claim the Millstreet International Welcome Tour Grand Prix title after a thrilling competition.

Twenty eight horses came forward for the feature class, all vying for their share of the €5,500 prize fund and the first round claimed its fair share of victims. Thirteen combinations produced faultless performances over the Olaf Herrmann (GER) designed course to go forward to the second round – leading to one of the most exciting Grand Prix to grace the Green Glens Arena in recent years. A Message from the Alex Ott Appeal:

Alex Ott suffered a serious spinal injury while exercising a horse last November. He has undergone phase one of his immediate treatment in Cork University Hospital and he is now in The National Rehabilitation Centre in Dun Laoghaire,
Co. Dublin undergoing assessment and intensive treatment.

Alex is a well known hunt enthusiast where horses coupled with all forms of equestrian sport were his life. Alex is a passionate horseman, skilled in all aspects of horse management and both he and his partner Janet run Gooseberry Hill Horses. He has four young children Zara, Andy, Luke, Ella all active pony riders within Duhallow.

There are many events running to support this very popular family man and on April 8th 2015 @8pm we are having a Gala Show by the world renowned Liam O’Connor Musician and team who will ”Rock for Ott” in The Green Glens Arena, Millstreet, Co. Cork.

This is an evening of magical entertainment and a night to remember. Surprise Celebrity guests will be present to give their support so Trot for Ott to Green Glens where you can “Rock for Ott” your support and donations to date are truly valued and on 8th April you too can make a real difference in 2015 for one of
our own.
